Asturs
A bit of history...
It was founded in 1983, participating in the Flower Offering to the Immaculate Conception of that year as its first official act, becoming the youngest comparsa of the festivities. Formed from the Penya El Trabuc march of the Chanos comparsa, they tried to revive the old Xurros comparsa. The Festival Board rejected the request alleging that it was not framed in the historical context of the festivities.
They took the name of Asturs in explicit reference to that town in the north of the Iberian Peninsula and especially to the figure of D. Pelayo and the battle of Covadonga. The original design of the gala dress was by Flor Azorín, which underwent 2 subsequent modifications, in 2001 lengthening the dalmatic and in 2012 changing the helmet for a black beret with an embroidered shield.
Finally, in 2022 the new gala costume was approved, maintaining the essence of the previous one but looking for a more warrior air, designed this time by Joan Vicent Martínez i Ballester (official chronicler of the comparsa and renowned designer from Ontinyent). It consists of black tights, a black dalmatic underneath and a white bib above, with the company's characteristic castles on the skirt and sleeves and finished with gold details. The cross of Asturias is embroidered on the chest, and it also has embroidery in the form of a padlock on the shoulders. Finally, they wear a die-cut shield with the cross of Asturias on the back, an axe as a weapon and also wristbands, boots, a bag and a black leather belt.
The second outfit is beige and the lower part of the hood is black. It keeps the same boots, belt and bag as the formal suit. In 2022, the cross on the chest was also changed to the cross of Asturias, in line with the new formal suit.
