Mudéjares
A bit of history...
The Comparsa Mudéjares, like so many others that parade in Ontinyent, arose from the union of several festival-goers belonging to several other comparsas: the Omeyas, the Kábilas and an archer; and a large group of very diverse people who did not belong to any comparsa. On February 11, 1975, the Society of Festeros was formally asked to register the new comparsa, and in the festivities of that year they already paraded as part of the Moorish side.
The Mudéjar costume was designed by the late Mudéjar Fernando Cámara and consists of a bone-coloured gerga-gabardine chilaba or kilaba, a green tergal cape with a Mudéjar Arabic design on the wide hood that falls over the back, a turban-shaped hat made of tergal and silk, and a black gauze veil hanging down. The satin chilaba was adopted for everyday wear, with a tergal-cotton fabric and brown and ecru stripes. For footwear, slippers with bright green points and filigree for gala wear, and plain brown ones for everyday wear; the latter is finished with orange slits and a leather bag.
The Comparsa Mudéjares is a comparsa in continuous evolution and growth, which is reflected in the large number of new additions, especially young people, who feel attracted by the welcoming and casual character that characterizes us, channeled in respect and formality, while avoiding constraints.
