XXX Children's Esquadra Corporal Competition

Since its inception in 1984, the children's squad leader competition has established itself as a highlight to highlight the role of children in our Moorish-Christian festivities. In its early years, it was held the week before the Semana Grande of our festivities, being located in front of the premises of the Sociedad de Festeros and in the afternoon. But since 1993, this event has moved to the Plaza Mayor.

It was in 1994 when it found its day, being held on the Monday of Semana Grande, although during this period the time of celebration varied as it could be in the afternoon or at night. From 2002 to the present, the competition shines even more as it takes place under the starry blanket of the night, adding a special charm to it.

This event, held at the foot of the majestic Moorish and Christian castle, attracts an enthusiastic crowd. Twenty-four people, including children and The girls, equally divided between the Christian and Moorish sides, wear the elegant gala costumes of their respective groups. To the beat of Moorish marches, Christian marches and pasodobles, the boys and girls move gracefully and skilfully with their groups, as well as showing off their skills with the sword, sabre, baton or knife, captivating the large audience that fills the square.

Once each participant has demonstrated their skills leading and making the group move, the crucial moment of deliberation by the jury arrives. This is made up of the Captains, Ambassadors, as well as the Standard Bearers and the twenty-four First Trons who evaluate not only the technical skills, but also the passion and commitment of each contestant with their comparsa and with the tradition they represent.

It is a moment of joy and camaraderie, where childhood becomes the star of the event, reminding us of the importance of preserving our traditions for future generations.
